A Unique Service for Cytogenetics
As the sole proprietor of Cyto-Care, I provide locum tenens coverage for your laboratory while you take that much needed, long over due vacation (a vacation without phone calls from the lab or FedEx-ing charts to sign). Since starting Cyto-Care in June of 1994, I have provided temporary coverage to many laboratories. The volume in these laboratories varied from 10 to 250 cases per week and the length of coverage varied from two days to nine months. As a certified cytogeneticist since 1982 with 17 years of experience directing cytogenetics laboratories, I can work with any type of specimen and all methods of reporting including high resolution and FISH. I enjoy experiencing the variety of methods, procedures, and policies in different laboratories. I work easily with the technical staff and require only a brief introduction to the laboratory.
Other qualifications include a Certificate of Quality in Cytogenetics from the New York State Department of Health and I am a Fellow in the American College of Medical Genetics.
The Basics
I provide coverage (based on my availability) for as long as required. Compensation for this service, is negotiated, at the time service is requested. In addition to paying for my services my clients usually pay for my travel expenses. These basic travel expenses include airfare, lodging, ground transportation and certain out of pocket expenses.
I usually fill the position of temporary laboratory director and require that the laboratory cover my liability insurance. Since I am board certified in Cytogenetics, this is usually not a problem.
During my stay I will review and sign out all clinical cytogenetics cases and perform all the functions of the permanent director while they are away.
More Information
FLEXIBLE SERVICE:
In most instances, I am on site to provided effective service. There are situations when that may not be necessary. I have signed cases sent by Federal Express (cases received in the morning are returned on the same day). I am also willing to review cases by computer where possible.
COMPENSATION:
Compensation can be made by the case, hour, day, week, or by the job. I am usually paid as a consultant but have also been salaried by some clients.
INSURANCE:
Liability insurance is provided by the client.
TRAVEL:
Travel arrangements can be made either by the client or by Cyto-Care.
When arrangements are made by Cyto-Care, the cost will be included on the invoice as a reimbursable expense.
LODGING:
Housing can be in a local hotel or in on campus housing when available. For long term stays a small apartment is more economical and convenient.
GROUND TRANSPORTATION:
Ground transportation includes travel to and from airports and usually a rental car.
OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES:
Out of pocket expenses may include shuttles, parking at airports or other expenses required to provide coverage.
NOTE:
Every effort is made to keep all costs to a minimum by finding the most economical airfare, means of transportation and lodging.
